The main purpose of this CU is to show how the different aspects of language competence are integrated and should be described on the basis of contextualized interactions that can be seen as speech events. These speech events, like Reporting or Giving Information, are more or less predictable sequences of communication which acquire their coherence from shared schematic knowledge.
On the basis of the language and communication needs of a B1 level learner (see C.E.F.R.L.) we will select and analyze speech events on Oral European Portuguese Corpora. The goal is to observe authentic communication in authentic contexts.
The work with real contextualized speech events offer the following advantages:
They take place in a given sequence in a given sequence that is dependent on the social and cultural context;
They permit a integrated presentation of all the components of the communicative process: functions, interactional features, textual structures, discourse strategies, notions, linguistic features, markers, registers, etc.
They could have a direct relationship to tasks and thus to learn activities that can be used in the classroom.
Through the observation and analyses of is empirical realizations, they permit an increasing language awareness for all the individuals involved in that process (teachers and learners).
