This course unit provides the practical component for the application, consolidation and development of the theoretical knowledge learned in earth and life science course units, throughout the 1st year (major) of the degree in Environmental Sciences.

• Capacity to apply the knowledge learned in theoretical course units.
• Capacity of observing and questioning reality, identifying strengths and weaknesses, opportunities and threats as far as the environment is concerned.
• Interpersonal relation skills.

1. Identification and classification of minerals and rocks (igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary).
2. Field Trip to an intertidal zone and taxonomy laboratory (biodiversity).
3. Topographic maps (types, symbols, scale and calculations). Geologic maps (colours, symbols and structures).
4. Identification and classification of several examples of Mediterranean flora.
5. Field Trips to areas of high nature value.
6. Identifying animals. Use of macroinvertebrate fauna identification guides.

Continuous assessment is privileged: 2 digital written documents (e-folios) during the semester (40%) and a final digital test, Global e-folio (e-folio G) at the end of the semester (60%).
