This curricular unit has as main objective to develop the communicational and cultural skills necessary to integrate into the professional environment in French. It is intended that students are competent in more common work situations (calling, introducing themselves, etc.), with usual interlocutors (French-speaking colleagues, clients, etc.) and typical skills (scheduling meetings, negotiating, etc.), taking into account French-speaking cultural specificities.

At the end of this course, students should be able to:

- Understand and produce simple texts (oral and written), suitable for various contexts of professional environment;

- Understand and synthesize the most relevant information in oral and written statements related to professional life;

- Demonstrate autonomy and discursive rigor in the use of technical terminology;

- Develop (inter)cultural knowledge of the business world.

This course is part of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, level A2, and at the end of the semester students should be able to express themselves spontaneously and at ease in French, using the terminology and vocabulary of the professional world. For that, they must have acquired a good lexical domain; knowing how to choose the appropriate expression within an available repertoire; produce a clear written and oral speech, well- constructed, with rigor and without hesitation, which demonstrates a good use of the grammatical and communicative structures covered throughout the semester.

 

It is intended that students acquire a good knowledge of the French language in a professional environment, both in writing and speaking. To this end, the following contents will be covered in this course:

The Moodle e-learning platform is the environment where all learning activities take place. Each thematic unit allows for a deeper understanding of the language, varied activities, commentary and discussion of diverse texts aim to develop the students’ ability to express themselves fluently and at ease, both in oral and written form. Each thematic unit also has a discussion  forum (supervised by the teacher) where students can express their reflections, share difficulties or doubts, thus helping each other in a collaborative learning process. At the end of each thematic unit, the teacher provides a set of training activities in order to the student to test, apply and structure the knowledge acquired and the skills developed, thus diagnosing progress and gaps in the learning process. Bearing in mind the nature and objectives of this curricular unit, these activities favours the correct expression in French as well as an appropriate transfer of knowledge and skills to the business world.

Students must carry out, in addition to the various activities during the semester, two works in digital format (e-fólios) that consist of a practical application of the themes under study. These activities make it possible to broaden the horizon of students’ skills and knowledge, by deepening aspects of the syllabus. During the time dedicated to the realization of each e-fólio, a forum moderated by the teacher is opened to guide the work. The students have access, on their respective learning card (CAP), to an individual comment on their work that helps them to progress in their learning. The organization and management of activities, as well as the principles that govern the assessment, are defined in the Course Plan provided to the students at the beginning of the academic semester.
