It aims at providing students a space for the development of scientific critical mind, while identifying and assimilating the main research processes, methodologies and practices in science and technology with special emphasis on technologies and information systems.

Upon completion of this course, students shall be able to:
- Recognize the importance of scientific research in the technological advancement of the computer systems and applications in general;
- Identify the main characteristics, phases and strategies of scientific research giving special emphasis to the computer science field;
- Identify the main characteristics of scientific texts and their writing techniques;
- Apply the research strategies and the scientific writing techniques to realize a state-of-the-art study or an evaluation of an existing article and write a scientific paper.

1) Methodologies and techniques of the research project: base motivation; support theory; traditional research; interpretive research; research in computer science, with special emphasis on technologies and information systems;
2) Systematic search methods of scientific information;
3) Conception and writing of a scientific article;
4) Presentation and argumentation of scientific work.

E-learning

Evaluation is made on individual basis and it involves the coexistence of two modes: continuous assessment (60%) and final evaluation (40%). Further information is detailed in the Learning Agreement of the course unit.
