This course unit provides an overview of the Brazilian artistic production since the 16th century up to Modernity, by studying its main authors, works and aesthetic trends and  relating them with the Brazilian historical and social context.

Students are expected to be able to
• fesature the historical and cultural context of Brazil from the 16th to the 20th century;
• place in time Brazilian artistic movements and major works and authors;
• relate aesthetic movements with broader sociocultural contexts.

Continuous assessment is privileged: 2 or 3 digital written documents (e-folios) during the semester (40%) and a presence-based final exam (p-folio) in the end of the semester (60%).
In due time, students can alternatively choose to perform one final presence-based exam (100%).
