SME Management
This unit aims at building the groundwork for the management of SMEs organizations. A critical approach will be adopted to build the notions related to the management of small and medium sized firms. This will help the construction of the various elements integrating the management of small organizations. We will study classical functions of management in small firms: organization, direction, planning or strategy, control and staffing. Some case studies will be developed and extended in learning activities.

The student will learn the basics of the management of SMEs as well as the functions and critical dimensions of the management these organizational settings. The student will understand better the management function in distinct organizational settings for SMEs. The student will finally be able to elaborate diagnosis and realize reasoned analyses of the management systems and propose suggestion for improving the workings of small organizations.

Continuous assessment is privileged: 2 digital written documents (e-folios) during the semester (40%) and a final digital test, Global e-folio (e-folio G) at the end of the semester (60%). In due time, students can alternatively choose to perform one final exam (100%).

Basic texts are written in Portuguese, however students are recommended to be competent in English because complementary readings may be in English.
