This module offers a theoretical and empirical overview on the current debates over the nature and the origins of globalisation and its impact on the European economy, politics and society. Furthermore, it provides an important ethical, as well as analytical, dimension to the study of globalisation. The geopolitical reconfiguration initiated by the collapse of communism in 1989 will be examined in relation to the crisis of Western liberalism and the emergence of new forms of resistance to globalisation.

At the end of this course, the student must have acquired the following competencies:
-  Analytical and practical skills needed to understand and critically assess contemporary globalisation
- Contextualization and understanding of the causes, the history and the basic definitions of globalisation and its impact on the European economy, culture and environment
- Ability to analyse and debate the effects of globalisation and its consequences for equality, conflict and security, as well as economic and social stability in Europe.
