This master's degree endows qualifications in the areas of teaching, research, specialised and/or continuous training, within the scope of Language and Literature, and has as its main objectives: to bring about the updating, development and deepening of scientific knowledge of graduates in the area of Portuguese Studies, Portuguese Linguistics, Portuguese Literature and/or Humanities; to encourage critical analysis and reflective capacities, of identification and resolution of problems in the context of innovative research in the area of Portuguese language studies; and to stimulate the communication of research results in specialised forums in order to contribute to the progress of scientific knowledge in their area of studies.

It should be noted that the Master's Degree in Portuguese Language Studies is not of a professionalizing nature, does not confer qualifications for teaching, but allows for career progression.
