The importance of this curricular unit is linked to the perception of the most recent of the political, social and economic issues in contemporary Spanish society. Our analysis will include the main iconographic elements in Spanish culture, the different visions of the "i" and "he", the concept of state vs. nation, Spain and the European Union and the emphasis on generational policy, among others. It will be essential to read the texts referred to in the bibliography, as well as other contemporary written texts and audio-visual works that will help us to perceive Spain today in a holistic way.

Students should be able to
• identify, analyse and connect the most important social conflicts and economic issues of 21st century in the current Spain.
• understand the nationalist issues in the Spanish State.
• read critically the texts written and audio-visual works most representative of each conflict analysed
• adopt a critical view of the political landscape of the present Spanish society.
• to know the linguistic, cultural, social and economic reality of the present  Spanish society.

This curricular unit aims at analysing the main sociocultural events in the Spanish society during the 21st century. The analysis includes events such as the discussion and approval of the Spanish Constitution, the coup d'état of 23F, the Basque and foreign terrorism, social movements of the 15M and the rise of new political parties.

Continuous assessment is privileged: 2 digital written documents (e-folios) during the semester (40%) and a final digital test, Global e-folio (e-folio G) at the end of the semester (60%). In due time, students can alternatively choose to perform one final exam (100%).
