- Distinguir as características e natureza do conhecimento científico, tecnológico, artístico e comunicacional;
- Discriminar diversas abordagens, metodologia e métodos de investigação, desenvolvimento e experimentação artística adequados à média-arte digital e explicar a sua aplicabilidade a diferentes tipos de problemas e questões de investigação;
- Diferenciar as diferentes práticas de investigação em áreas relacionadas com a criação artística, a comunicação digital e a tecnologia;
 - Elaborar, analisar e criticar artigos científicos e propostas de instalações artísticas.
 - Conceber artefactos de média-arte digital, com base nos módulos opcionais frequentados no âmbito das UCs FAACD e FATAC;
 - Produzir um Diário de Bordo relativo ao Projeto de Média-Arte Digital;
- Produzir um artigo científico sobre um artefacto de média-arte digital.

The UC is divided into two modules: Research Methodology and Artistic Production, which aims to provide students with knowledge that will allow them to choose the most appropriate methodology and research methods for the development of research projects in artistic practice at the frontier of art, science and technology and, more specifically, in digital media art. Thus, this module will address the structure and main sections of a scientific article; the structure and guiding principles for the preparation of a bibliographic survey; research methodology in science, technology and art; the use of a/r/tography and a/r/cography in digital media; critical analysis of scientific articles focusing on digital media artefacts; the production of a full scientific paper, according to defined criteria of structure, content and form. The second module, Digital Media Art Project, will provide students with the necessary knowledge to plan, structure, implement and track progress in the various steps of developing a digital media artefact, from initial inspiration to final implementation, aiming at its public exhibition during the doctoral retreat. This artefact also represents an important core of the research carried out by the students within the scope of their theses, so it should be linked to the research question, providing opportunities for questioning, reflection and exploration. Thus, the module will allow them to identify the main phases of a digital media-art project; use the a/r/cographic method of creative research based on artistic practice; identify the inspiration and motivation in a Digital Media-Art Project; identify the intention and design of the concept, including the study of the state of the art (similar works) in a Digital Media-Art Project; implement and prototype a Digital Media-Art Project; test, correct and implement the final artefact of the Digital Media-Art Project, including logistical planning (transport, assembly, disassembly) and maintenance during the exhibition; and prepare the Intervention / exhibition / public presentation of a Digital Media-Art Project

E-learning

The evaluation of this learning unit encompasses a continuous dimension based on the quality of the questions and problems that the student poses to the teacher/class; carrying out the proposed tasks in each module, as well as participating in the discussion in the forums. Through this dimension, the student must ensure frequency (success) of the three mandatory modules and the five optional modules. The State of the Art Study carried out during the academic year will determine its quantitative classification, after being assessed in a public exam, during the doctoral retreat

Given the theoretical nature of the learning unit, the teaching/learning process should follow an approach based on individual work assignments in the form of an intensive study of the area and its respective state of the art, and the participation, in virtual classroom, in the online collaborative learning process based on the discussion and critical analysis of the various topics of study. The teacher conducts online tutoring orientation sessions to focus the study effor
