The main objective of this Seminar is to introduce and familiarize the students to the many potentialities of all sorts of Medieval sources, from image to architecture, from archaeological remains to music, from documents to works of literature, from chronicles to linguistic documents). Four specialists in different areas of Medieval studies will join in in order to promote the study of topics for which several types of sources contribute and for the study of single sources which provide materials for all sorts of different themes.

-- Accrue the student's awareness with practical examples, emphasising the potential of one source for the research of several different scientific areas and the usefulness of several different types of documents for the study of one theme.
Ability to find, compile, contextualize and interpret substantial quantities of medieval documents, in the context of using all their potential.

-Ability to understand the importance of applying in practice principles of rigor in the research in medieval interdisciplinary studies and the importance of criticising the sources in a  proficient manner.

 2- Medieval Rural Communities: territoriality and ways of life

Sources: Excavation reports, daily life artifacts, selling and renting of property, cartularies & cadasters, sentences and laws, moral literature, enquiries, image, toponimy, etc.
