The discipline of Digital Image Processing has as main objective to make students aware of the main techniques of digital image processing. It is intended that students implement and apply the techniques studied in example image in order to gain sensitivity to apply them to new problems.

It is expected that the student when completing this course unit will be able to:
  1. Know the importance of using digital image processing and analysis techniques in various domains;
  2. Know the main digital image processing and analysis techniques;
  3. Propose solutions based on digital image processing and analysis in problems of various domains.

1. Introduction to Digital Image Processing.
2. The digital image and its properties.
3. Elementary operations on images.
4. Transformations of intensity.
5. Spatial filtering.
6. Fourier transform.
7. Image segmentation.
8. Mathematical morphology.
9. Representation, descriptors and object recognition.
10. Computer vision as an extension of PDI.
