This Curricular unit offers a panoramic view of Portuguese Literature, from the end of the 16th to the 19th century. The main features that illustrate and distinguish the various literary forms cultivated during this time are analysed, as well as the most significant authors of the period. Some specific texts considered as paradigmatic will be deeply analysed. Each year two authors or two literary works will be suggested for a deep study.

By the end of this curricular unit, the student must have acquired / developed:
•extensive knowledge about the Portuguese literary production concerning the different periods analysed;
•competence to read and to comment texts critically;
•ability to use, in a personal and critical perspective, the acquired knowledge in the analysis of different texts and genders concerning different periods;
•Skilful writing, ability of expression, synthesis, reflection and criticism are also recquired.

III.The XVIIIth century Enlightenment
 •The poetry of the Árcades
 •Pre-romantic tendencies - Marquesa de Alorna and Bocage
IV.The realistic-naturalistic portuguese XIXth century novel
 •Júlio Dinis, Camilo Castelo Branco e Eça de Queirós – As pupilas do senhor reitor, Eusébio Macário and the short story Singularidades de uma rapariga loira.

Continuous assessment is privileged: 2 digital written documents (e-folios) during the semester (40%) and a final digital test, Global e-folio (e-folio G) at the end of the semester (60%). In due time, students can alternatively choose to perform one final exam (100%).
