This course unit provides ideas on the literary production of East Timor, Macau and other Asian regions in which the Portuguese influence was felt. It studies the existing literature within its historical, political, social contexts. Some paradigmatic authors are analysed, such as: Francisco Borja da Costa, Luis Cardoso and Xanana Gusmao (Timor); Henrique Senna Fernandes, Yao Jingming, Rodrigo Leal de Carvalho, Fernanda Dias and Deolinda da Conceição (Macau).

 

Students are expected to be able
• to acquire an overview of the literature produced in Portuguese-speaking Asia;
• to grasp the aesthetic and ideological most remarkable literary production of some specific authors;
• to acquire critical reflection and expression competences in the study of the authors concerned, their different historical moments and various literary themes.

I. Panoramic of Lusophone Literature(s).
II. Reflection on the 'Lusophone space': language, cultures, literatures.
III. Analysis of certain literary trends (poetry and fiction) in East Timores and Macau within a comparative approach.

E-learning.

Continuous assessment is privileged: 2 or 3 digital written documents (e-folios) during the semester (40%) and a presence-based final exam (p-folio) in the end of the semester (60%).
In due time, students can alternatively choose to perform one final presence-based exam (100%).

Competence in English language is recommended.
