This course unit seeks to address the main aspect of the literary phenomenon: literature as an institution, in its socio-cultural, historical and esthetic dimensions; the chief characteristics of the literary work; the study of literary genres and literary evolution.
Also integral to this unit will be a set of reflections on fundamental themes and concepts, which will allow students to acquire competences in the activities of the analysis and interpretation of the literary work, and thus to frame issues essential to the field of literary studies.
In sum, students will acquire the theoretical skills indispensable to a basic understanding of literature.

Continuous assessment is privileged: 2 digital written documents (e-folios) during the semester (40%) and a final digital test, Global e-folio (e-folio G) at the end of the semester (60%). In due time, students can alternatively choose to perform one final exam (100%).
