This course unit objective is to deepen knowledge about processes involved in oral discourse production and comprehension, in order to promote a better work out of teaching strategies in this verbal modality. Intrinsic properties of oral discourse will be presented and discussed to get students aware of its specificities. We will study the oral communicative competence in its production approach, identifying different stages and the linguistic knowledge that integrate cerebral discourse planning and phonetic performance, and in its comprehension approach, specifying the way from sound signal to meaning. The last objective of this course unit is to apply this knowledge to the design of strategies for oral discourse teaching.

By the end of this course unit, students will be able:
- to recognize oral discourse properties;
- to characterize the oral communicative competence.
