Figurations and topics of Portuguese cultural identity 
This course unit proposes a reflection on the role of literature in shaping and questioning the different ways by which the national imagination has experienced the ways of thinking and being-Portuguese.

Students are expected
• to learn the course unit contents as well as to read all recommended bibliography;
• to rank and feature the main socio-cultural, historical and literary guidelines that frame the proposed authors and works;
• to relate dynamically literary texts and doctrinary texts;
• to reflect and criticise authors and texts as well as practising correct and structured ways of expression.

This course unit provides students with a selective overview of Portuguese culture through the study of a corpus of authors and texts, fictional and critical, considered as paradigms in what concerns cultural and Portuguese Identity privileged expressions and moments;

Continuous assessment is privileged: 2 or 3 digital written documents (e-folios) during the semester (40%) and a presence-based final exam (p-folio) in the end of the semester (60%). In due time, students can alternatively choose to perform one final presence-based exam (100%).

Considering that this course unit aims at approaching authors and texts considered emblematic in the Portuguese culture, students must be aware about the importance of fully reading all literature  recommended - particularly the compulsory one.
