The student must acquire competences to:

• Know and characterize textual prototypes and discourse genres;

• Control the mechanisms of textual building and organizing;

• Identify the resources of textual organization and its importance for the construction of meanings;

• Identify the linguistic and discursive mechanisms of each kind of text;

• Acquire techniques of communication and of written expression in Portuguese;

• Exercise production competencies in various genres/types of discourse, on the basis of the theoretical acquired knowledge.

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

• Understand and characterize textual prototypes and discourse genres. 

• Master the mechanisms of text construction and organization. 

• Identify the resources involved in textual organization and their role in the construction of meaning. 

• Recognize the linguistic and discursive mechanisms associated with different text types. 

• Develop effective written communication skills in Portuguese. 

• Produce texts in a range of discourse genres and text types, applying the theoretical knowledge acquired throughout the course.

Assessment is conducted on an individual basis and combines two complementary components:

• Continuous assessment, accounting for 60% of the final grade. 

• Final assessment, accounting for 40% of the final grade. 

Assessment activities will take various forms, as specified in the course Learning Agreement.
