Starting from the observation of linguistic data, the seminar aims to analyze and reflect on the relations between the Language Policy of Portuguese and other subareas of linguistics, namely sociolinguistics. Thus, the status of the Portuguese language will be considered within the scope of the geopolitical space that is recognized and also in its relationship with other linguistic spaces. The seminar will also address the (socio)linguistic consequences of the challenges posed by immigration in the national territory and the responses of various institutions in terms of language policy.

- understand the nature and relevance of language policies in a specific sociolinguistic framework;
- understand the role of the various intervention plans, strategies and consequences within multilingual contexts;
- relate the sociolinguistic framework of the Portuguese language with the role of ongoing language policies.

Evaluation is made on individual basis and it involves the coexistence of two modes: continuous assessment (60%) and final evaluation (40%). Further information is detailed in the Learning Agreement of the course unit.

Conforme decorre da bibliografia apresentada serão usados textos em francês e inglês para além da Língua Portuguesa, pelo que os estudantes deverão ter competências suficientes para a compreensão dos textos a estudar nestas línguas.
