The seminar ‘Medievalisms and Neo-Medievalisms’ proposes to students a reflection on the responses to the Middle Ages that can be identified in a chronological period that goes from the end of the medieval period to the current society, on a global scale and in a wide range of contexts. The discussion will be promoted around three main axes. First, the theory that has been produced in the field of study known as Medievalism. Secondly, the presence of the “Middle Ages” in various areas of artistic creation, including literature, visual arts, cinematography, music, video games. Additionally, students address the different ways in which events, processes, episodes and characters from the medieval period are used in other contexts, including the public sphere and political debate.
