Curricular unit that offers a panoramic view of Portuguese Literature, from the end of the 12th Century to the 16th Century. The main features that illustrate and distinguish the various literary forms cultivated during this time span are presented, as well as its most significant authors. Some specific texts considered as paradigmatic for the period under study will be analysed. Each year teo authors or two literary works will be proposed for a deeper study.

By the end of this curricular unit, the student must have acquired / developed:
•broad knowledge on Medieval and 16th Century Portuguese Literature;
•competence to understand and to read critically texts in ancient and renaissance Portuguese;
•capacity to apply, in a selective and critical way, the acquired knowledge in the analysis of various kinds of texts;
•facility of expression, synthesis, reflection and criticism.

Continuous assessment is privileged: 2 digital written documents (e-folios) during the semester (40%) and a final digital test, Global e-folio (e-folio G) at the end of the semester (60%). In due time, students can alternatively choose to perform one final exam (100%).
