História da Idade Contemporânea
This is a general and succinct approach to the history of the world in the 19th, 20th and early 21st centuries, with special emphasis on Europe and its relations with the other continents. The first part focuses on the origins, characteristics and impact of the revolutions in Europe and on the American continent in the transition from the 18th to the 19th century. The second analyses the main political and social changes of the 19th century. The third analyses the 20th century, from 1914 to the end of the Cold War. A fourth part is an introduction to the post-Cold War period and the first quarter of the 21st century. The student should come away with a global vision of the major transformations in the contemporary world and an approach to the problems of international relations.

• Reflect critically and support his/her claims about selected historical documents;
• Related the present to the recent past, in order to a better understand world problems of our days.

Continuous assessment is privileged: 2 digital written documents (e-folios) during the semester (40%) and a final digital test, Global e-folio (e-folio G) at the end of the semester (60%). In due time, students can alternatively choose to perform one final exam (100%).
Students are required to have access to a computer with Internet connection and an e-mail address as well as to have computer literacy from the users' perspective.
