This PhD aims to enhance the area of applied mathematics and modelling, which is fundamental for services and industry at a high technological level. It aims to train professionals who can: scientifically strengthen R&D departments in companies; integrate academic departments, research centres and associated laboratories; enhance academic/company collaboration; promote recognition of the importance of mathematics and statistics for the scientific description of reality.

It is a distance learning teaching programme taught in a virtual class using an e-learning platform and adopting the Universidade Aberta pedagogic model.
This PhD course is divided into a first part corresponding to the course curriculum for postgraduate studies in Applied Mathematics and Modelling, and a second part, dedicated to preparing, performing and presenting and defending of a thesis. The course curriculum correspond to 60 credits, corresponding to 6 curricular units from the available ones at each edition and has one year duration. The research work and the writing of the thesis have a three year duration and corresponds to 180 credits.
