The syllabus of this course focus on the major themes of the history of music in Portugal at different times, from the Middle Ages to  Contemporary Era. The Portuguese case study will be analyzed in confrontation with the international scope, both in Europe and in contexts beyond the Atlantic.

•Recognising the importance of the main personalities of Portuguese music history in different historical and cultural contexts
•Identifying composers, works and musical trends;
•Knowing the main vocabulary and music instruments used throughout the ages in different periods

4–19th century – Romanticism
5–Contemporary musical expressions (20th century)

E-learning

Continuous assessment is privileged: 2 digital written documents (e-folios) during the semester (40%) and a final digital test, Global e-folio (e-folio G) at the end of the semester (60%). In due time, students can alternatively choose to perform one final exam (100%).

Students are required to have access to a computer with Internet connection and an e-mail address as well as to have computer literacy from the users' perspective.
