•Development of critical reading skills, of the ability of summarizing texts and of their analysis.
•Development of the capacity to explain content and to compare information and critical comments.
•Development of the competence to contextualize and comment documents of various epochs related to German society and culture.
•Capacity to differentiate theoretical concepts, such as ‘Kultur’ and ‘Zivilisation’.
•Acquisition of knowledge about the most important movements and moments in the political, social and cultural evolution of Germany in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
•Identification and understanding of the characteristics in German identity and culture; its manifestations in the European and world-wide context of recent history.

Continuous assessment is privileged: 2 digital written documents (e-folios) during the semester (40%) and a final digital test, Global e-folio (e-folio G) at the end of the semester (60%). In due time, students can alternatively choose to perform one final exam (100%).

Good reading skills in English required.
