The Digital Humanities: Applications to Portuguese Studies course aims to introduce students to the field of Digital Humanities, focusing on an approach applied to research, teaching and cultural dissemination in the field of Portuguese Studies. The course provides an overview of the digital transformation in the Humanities, focusing subsequently on the critical exploration and practice of digital tools relevant to the organisation, analysis and interpretation of textual and cultural sources.
Through contact with digital applications and platforms designed for bibliographic management, textual analysis, digital editing and annotation, data visualisation and the use of artificial intelligence technologies, the aim is to develop skills that enable students to explore new methods of research and knowledge production. The course also promotes reflection on methodological, cultural and ethical challenges associated with the digital mediation of Portuguese literary, linguistic and cultural heritage.
The aim is to enable students to use digital resources in an informed and critical manner, encouraging the creation and analysis of corpora, experimentation with digital methodologies, and the application of these practices to research and scientific dissemination in Portuguese Studies.

Evaluation is made on individual basis and it involves the coexistence of two modes: continuous assessment (60%) and final evaluation (40%). Further information is detailed in the Learning Agreement of the course unit.
