The aim of this course is to provide competences to students so that they can work in the human resource department of public or private organizations.
To attain this outcome, the course includes some relevant aspects of human resource management: its frame (the Portuguese system of labor relations; the characterization of the human resource function and of the human resource management); the psycho-sociological aspects of human resource management; its insertion in the organizational strategy; job analysis and job evaluation; recruitment and selection; performance appraisal; compensation and benefits.

On successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
• Analyze the frame of human resource management (labor relations; characterization of the human resource function and of the human resource management);
• Apply the psycho-sociological knowledge to the daily life of the organizations;
• Insert human resource management into the organizational strategy;
• Elaborate the documents that result from the job analysis and evaluate jobs;
• Recruit and select individuals;
• Assess the performance of employees;
• Reward the employees.

E-learning

Continuous assessment is privileged: 2 digital written documents (e-folios) during the semester (40%) and a final digital test, Global e-folio (e-folio G) at the end of the semester (60%). In due time, students can alternatively choose to perform one final exam (100%).

Good knowledge of Principles of Management is a prerequisite for the adequate comprehension of this course unit.
