This curricular unit aims to enhance the reasoning about the teaching of literature, providing reference texts of opinion and of theoretical character to the students as a frame.
It is also desirable that the students may look into the links between the teaching of a language and the teaching of literature, and decide on a sustainable position on the question of the relevance of a literary education and of its contribution for the development of reading competencies. In this context, the most relevant perspectives available in both national and international studies will be analysed.

Literary reading and the competencies that it demands, as well as the literary text’s methodologies of analysis in school are the systematic study object. It is intended that the students will become able to position themselves critically on this questions. It is also intended to develop competencies of analysis in the appreciation of “Portuguese” and “Portuguese literature” curricular syllabus.
