To clarify some of the complexities that occupy the field of cultural studies, a critical reading of texts from different authors will be offered, which allow for a discussion of some of the questions central to the field and a vision of the world in terms of nationality and national identity, colonialism and postcolonisalism, race and ethnicity, popular culture, science and ecology, gender and sexuality, citizenship, and global history and culture in a postmodern era.

The competences to be developed in this course unit are the following:
• The capacity for critical reflection on different concepts of culture;
• The capacity for analyzing the cultural implications of texts from the fields of art, architecture, digital media, the mainstream press, television and cinema;
• The capacity to relate a work of art to its cultural, social and political context;
• The capacity to formulate a critical review and essay;
• The capacity to relate information and specific problems to the themes studied.

Continuous assessment is privileged: 2 digital written documents (e-folios) during the semester (40%) and a final digital test, Global e-folio (e-folio G) at the end of the semester (60%). In due time, students can alternatively choose to perform one final exam (100%).
