This course unit introduces the main topics for understanding the artistic phenomena from the Middle Ages till Contemporary Times in Western Europe. It featurres the most relevant pieces of art, the main biographies of artists and the social and cultural context in which the works were created.
• Reading and understanding a monument or a piece of art by placing it in its spatial and temporal context.
• Recognising the main artistical trends in Western Europe from the 12th to the 20th century.
• Featuring pieces of art belonging to different artistical periods and onsidering their historical and aesthetical dimensions.
E-learning.
Continuous assessment is privileged: 2 digital written documents (e-folios) during the semester (40%) and a final digital test, Global e-folio (e-folio G) at the end of the semester (60%). In due time, students can alternatively choose to perform one final exam (100%).
Students are required to have access to a computer with Internet connection and an e-mail address as well as to have computer literacy from the users' perspective.
