The focus of this CU/Course is on the fundamentals, concepts and methodologies in ESD and Projects in Education for Sustainable Development (ESD).
Beyond the Knowledge and Competencies this CU/Course aims to develop the ethical concepts and values for Sustainability.

It is intended that at the end of this Curricular Unit/Course, students should be able to:
O1. Recognise the Sustainable Development, Sustainability, sustainability science and Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) Fundamentals and Concepts;
O2. Recognise and Discuss Environmental Challenges and Sustainable Solutions;
O3. Discuss and Explain the role of the ESD in promoting Sustainability;
O4. Explain the scope, competencies and critical factors of ESD;
O5. Knowing the EU and National Strategies for Sustainable Development and the decade of ESD, its role in a Sustainable future and the The Global Action Programme (GAP) on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD);
06. Knowing the Transforming our World: The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development;
O7. Stimulate and Develop a Participative Environmental Citizenship trough ESD.

P1. What is Sustainable Development (Principles of Sustainable Development, Perspectives of Sustainable Development, Values, Topics, Goals and Plans) and sustainability science
P2 Selected thematic issues relating to the all three axes of sustainable development: The Social, Economic and Environmental.
P3 ESD (Characteristics, Values, Millennium Development Goals);
P4 The scope of ESD, using the scope of ESD as a lever for social change and competencies, ESD and environmental education, pedagogical and disciplinary contributions and challenges for learning;
P5. Critical factors (Whole-school approach, Linking to the community, Challenges in teaching, Biodiversity, Climate Change, natural resources and ESD, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), vocational education, higher education, Techniques and Practices in for sustainability assessment);
P6. The EU Sustainable Development Strategy, EU Strategies and the Role of ESD the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (2005-2014) and the Global Action Programme (GAP) on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD).

E-learning

Continuous assessment is privileged: 2 digital written documents (e-folios) during the semester (40%) and a final digital test, Global e-folio (e-folio G) at the end of the semester (60%). In due time, students can alternatively choose to perform one final exam (100%).
