Computers are increasingly interconnected in order to satisfy the growing needs of communication and information sharing and resources. The networks have come to substantially alter the existing Panorama in the organisation of computational systems making them more distributed, profitable and powerful. This chair addresses the problems and solutions found to connect computers in a reliable, safe and simplified manner. An essential problem is the heterogeneity and the vast diversity of the components to be interconnected in a coherent manner. The Internet illustrates all the problems that meet and the great potential of the solutions found.
